ABOUT : INSPIRATIONS
… or the harmonious connection with nature and the living world, allowing us to resonate with our inner being. Using ink to paint and assembling this painting with treasures of the past while giving it a second life.
An Inspiring Medium
Chinese ink painting does not aim to tell a story or describe something specific.
It is an experience of present, grounded in spontaneous gesture, a simplicity of means, and a kind of economy of expression. Perhaps this is what led me to ink painting after ten years of oil painting practice.
It was also the Sumi-e exhibition at Musée National de la Marine in 2005, where I was overwhelmed by the delightful chaos born from the experience of Beauty. Sometimes, a shock propels one forward.
Inspiration arises from the unexpected that animates both ideas and dreams.
Nature as Inspiration
This gave birth to ink paintings that exist into the space between figuration and abstraction, readable both right-side up and upside down. The interplay of values, shadow, and light reveals itself in landscapes that are understated, stripped down, and timeless. Another world is summoned, a silent and poetic 'elsewhere' evoking origins.
Old Papers
And then, why not draw inspiration from the invisible, which sometimes calls us? When I roam through flea markets or old bookstores, I feel drawn toward certain ancient papers, that seem inhabited and alive... Thus, through this journey and these encounters, the idea of Assemblages was born.
